This product is one of the major release for Profile Solutions this year. Auto Tuning allows a machine to be set up very easily for both accurate testing and high test rates.

On the high speed machine the 6LD-PLUS1 it is a standard feature and also available as an option on the budget machine the 6LD-LP.

This software is used as follows

From our MENU system the operator picks the hole size which is to be used as a threshold between 0.1 -1.0 mm ( 4-40 thou in.).

They then select Auto Tune and run a bottle through the machine and it works out the test threshold and the minimum time to find that hole.

Especially on the high speed machine it means that very unskilled operators can get a unit to run at high test rates which before would only be obtained by very experienced users or set up by a technician.

This features also includes all the hardware and software of our unique self test system, so at any time quality control personnel can initiate a self test and see how the settings work when the built in 0.4 mm (16 thou ) hole is opened.

Also as temperature and humidity change throughout the day the changes in the good bottles are tracked and the threshold is adjusted accordingly.

Our software even compensates for the expansion of containers that are lightweight and normally expand or creep a lot on testing and we believe we have made this system very good for small bottles.

The Auto Tune can be disabled and the machine run manually if desired and this is simply done from our menu system.

To keep the MENU system from being crowded parameters that can adjusted with various options only appear when that option is enabled.

Auto-Tune is a large leap forward in making leak detectors easier to use , especially with high speed testing.<!> It can also be fitted to multi-head machines.

Profile Solutions will have a 2LD with self test at the upcoming Plastimagen Exhibition in Mexico City. We are on stand 800 which is listed under the name of our local agent Tecnipet.

Thomas Mitchell the M.D. of Profile Solutions will be in attendance as will our agents Francisco Ollervides and Beatriz Uribe. The 2LD has our self test option we developed many years that does not waste bottles when it does the self test. So no more using syringes and pins on lines to check bottles use the self test system which has finer hole and can also work automatically at a preset count. We would be pleased to explain its other advantages.

Mexico and in fact other parts of central and South America have been a good market for us in the last 18 months as clients have discovered our consistent reliable technology.

Often when people drill a test hole in bottle the hole turns out smaller than the drill due to flexure in the bottle and also from swarf.

It is best to ream holes with a strong wire to ensure you have a hole the size you thought you were drilling. Also on holes 8 thou size in bottles need to be reamed very regularly as they easily get blocked up.

We use 7, 11 and 14 thou NORDSON glue gun priming wires.

Also often melting a hole gives you are larger size and the glue guns wires help you work out the true size, you think your machine is finding smaller holes than it really.

NORDSON also have a little chuck to hold the wire which is around USD 12-00 and is really worth the cost as it supports the wires very well.

NORDSON is a multi-national supplier of gluing system with offices all around the world, so these wires should be easy to get.

During the last 6 months we have made software upgrades that are now standard on all machines and can be retrofitted to all ‘gen2′ controllers.

1. Conveyor Acceleration And Deceleration Control

Now you not only can control the speed but also the accel and decel of the conveyor so that unstable bottles can be tested at the fasted rate. Generally The conveyor is set to the highest speed where the bottle still just stays upright and then the accel/decel are adjusted till no wobbling occurs.

The decel needs to be trimmed more than the accel generally. This features takes a lot of headaches away from operators especially those with little experience in setting up leak detectors.

For a small cost existing customers with GEN2 controllers can upgrade

2. Head Overlap & Bottle Stopping

From the menu system select HEAD UP/DOWN. The conveyor stops and using the arrow keys you can manually work the head solenoid whilst you adjust the head for the required 1-2 mm overlap of the seal.

I generally under the head mast lever and move it higher than the bottle, then extend the cylinder with the bottle to be tested underneath and then I lower the whole head assembly onto the bottle and put a slight force on the bottle and tighten the lever and the overlap adjustment is finished in 1-2 minutes,.

This can now be all done in a manual mode without this having to be done whilst in normal test modes which is the case for most leak detectors.

Operators will find this very easy yo use and find this machine less stressful to adjust as less skill is required.

3. Bottle Stopping

From the menu system select BOTTLE STOPPING. The conveyor stops and then you press start and the bottle continues it passes the sensors and stops.

We suggest you first adjust the sensor a little bit upstream of the final position and you can use another feature too.

Now it has stopped you can either adjust the sensor position or adjust a timer that can be used to trim the position without moving the sensor.

The more we have used this the more we wished is was a standard feature long ago.

Our standard sensor see the whole range of colour and clear. If all you are testing is PET at high speed we can offer a slightly better sensor for this function.

This is very useful for the adjusting the bottle stopping position when high speed testing is used.

4. Wobble – Bottle Exit Timers

All leak detectors have a built in fixed exit delay timer, so that when the conveyor starts again of the sensor is poorly adjusted and the bottle wobbles the sensor otherwise would think it is seeing another bottle and the head comes down again

This is OK being built in if you have a slow leak detector. However your clients put us both to the test wanting to test unstable bottles at high speeds as on our testers are capable ot this function. Being able to adjust this time so the head does not come down twice or possibly missed. It can be adjusted on the fly until you have it right. Generally in greater than 95% of cases you will never touch this, but when you need to it is better that you can adjust it and get on with business.

It also makes it easier for your operators to get very high test rates when required.

This unit replaces our medium and high speed unit and simplifies our range and also give top end performance at a lower cost than we have been able to do previously.

The 6LD-PLUS1 has an enhanced drive and also our new Auto Tune which allows it to test up to 6,900 bph.

This rate was achieved on a 100 ml PE bottle and their may be bottles we can run faster and get the rate above 7,000 bph.

We shelved our old HP unit which was little bit faster because it was too expensive for less than 5% better performance than this new unit achieves.

In fact it is less expensive to add a second head which gives around 1.8 times greater output than it was to make the old HP model which was only about 5% better.

The 6LD-PLUS1 right up to it tops speed it easy to adjust and far easier at the top end than our old HP unit.

THe unit also is small and compact with the standard 700 mm conveyor which also has a 40 mm infeed sprocket and a 65 mm outfeed sprocket for better bottle transition.

It can also fit inside machine guards better taking up less space which is a very real consideration with machines that deliver bottles out the front and with labellers and packing tables always tend to project to far forward.

The design of our machine has been consciously changed so we do not further contribute to the space problem but inf act help gain some more space back for you.

Also for unstable bottles we can add a second level of guide rails which is independently adjustable from the bottom set.

Also all 6LD models now have an adjustable rail on the front rail so you can easily adjust the rails for different length bottles more easily than before on our machines or other brands.

To look more at the machine click here to see a photo and more specifications.

The box diverter separates tested product into 2 boxes. We originally made this to go with our budget machine which has a top rate of 3000 BPH, but we have tested this with some small bottles in conveyor only mode and it has successfully worked at a rate of over 9000 BPH on a small 30ml slightly oval hotel guest bottle, so it can also be used with our faster models too. In the near future we will try and find its upper limit when we will post a new newsletter.

We have decided to keep one unit in stock for a quick delivery even though this is a new option.
